Denotation and Connotation
1) Write an analysis of the WaterAid advert above using point, evidence, terminology, analysis. What can you see? What are the deeper meanings in the advert? What does the advert communicate to the audience? How might an audience react after seeing the advert?
Point. In this photo you can see a black young boy who looks sad with the writing 'Dig toilets not graves'
Evidence. Additionally you can see that the text where it says 'dig toilets not graves' could mean to build toilets for poor people who may not have a toilet, the boy looking sad could mean that he is in that situation
Terminology. This advert tells the audience that there are people who need toilets and additional help while they are sitting at home doing nothing, therefore possibly asking them to donate
Analysis. Water Aid may be doing this to raise awareness for children in poor areas of the world and this photo may make the audience feel bad that they are doing nothing to help
Point. In this photo you can see an elevator with an upside down T with the words Devil written at the bottom
Evidence. However the upside down T may resemble an upside down cross as it says devil so it may be an upside down cross
Terminology. This advert tells the audience that the movie may end up being to do with the devil or a horror film
Analysis. The producers may be doing this type of film cover to show that this is a horror film to do with devlish activities
